Police arraign pastor accused of raping housewife, 17-year-old girl

The Benue State Police Command has arraigned a suspended pastor with a new generation church, Kelvin Imo of Kilometre 5, Gboko Road, Makurdi for alleged rape of a housewife and a 17- year-old girl before a Makurdi Chief Magistrate Court.

Prosecuting Police Officer, Inspector Friday Kanshio, informed the court that the housewife (name withheld) had on September 2 reported to the police in Makurdi that she went to the church to see the accused, who is her pastor, for prayers and counseling.

The complainant, however, said after praying for her, the accused wiped her face with a handkerchief, following which she lost strength and the pastor physically overpowered and forcibly had an intercourse with her inside the church.

Following police investigation, the accused was arrested

No plea was taken for want of jurisdiction, while the prosecutor stated that investigation was on- going and asked for another date.

The Chief Magistrate granted the accused in the sum of N1 million and one surety who must be a civil servant on Grade Level 15 and above.

He adjourned the case till October 8 for further mention.

In the second case against the pastor, the 17-year-old girl from Adoga, Tarkaa Local Government Area, Benue State, reported to the police that the accused invited her and other members to come to the Nyambee branch of the church in Tarkaa Local Government Area where he was the resident pastor.

However on reaching the church, the pastor invited her to his office and forcibly had canal knowledge of her.

The accused was remanded in Federal Correctional Centre, Makurdi, with the case adjourned till October 8.
