GBC’s Mabel Adorkor Annang wins 2025 Rosatom Media Award for excellence in nuclear reporting

Ghana Broadcasting Corporation’s (GBC) Energy Reporter, Mabel Adorkor Annang, has been awarded the 2025 Rosatom Media Award by Russia’s state nuclear energy corporation, Rosatom, at the World Atomic Week in Moscow.
She received the recognition for her exceptional reporting on nuclear power and its role in the global energy transition.
The award celebrates Ms Annang’s continuous contribution to raising public awareness and understanding of nuclear energy through impactful journalism.
Her work has highlighted the potential of nuclear power to strengthen Ghana’s energy security, promote sustainability, and drive industrial growth as the country advances plans to integrate nuclear energy into its power mix.
By simplifying complex nuclear topics and bringing expert voices to the forefront, Ms Annang has played a key role in fostering informed public dialogue around nuclear power in Ghana and across Africa.
Speaking after receiving the award, she expressed appreciation to Rosatom for the recognition, describing it as motivation to continue producing stories that educate the public and support Ghana’s clean energy transition.
“I’m so happy, I didn’t know Rosatom was taking notice of the stories I do on nuclear power. This will spur me on to do more. Since Ghana is working hard to establish its first nuclear power plant, the public needs to be educated on the huge potential nuclear energy has for the country. We on the energy desk will continue to ensure that people get the education and information they need on nuclear energy. I want to say thank you, thank you in Russian is spasiba. And I want to say spasiba to Rosatom, spasiba to my boss on the energy desk, Dominic Hlordzi, he’s such a great boss, and spasiba to all editors in the GBC newsroom for their support,” she said.
The Rosatom Media Award is one of the most prestigious recognitions for journalists reporting on nuclear energy worldwide. Ms Annang’s win places her among the leading voices shaping the narrative on Africa’s nuclear future.
