Headmaster suspended for ‘torturing’ student in Nuapada

Nuapada: The headmaster of Timanpur Ashram School under Sinapali block in Nuapada district has been suspended for allegedly torturing a student. According to reports, Akash Nayak, a student from Golamunda in Kalahandi district, has been studying in Class VI at the school since the current academic year. Headmaster Manoj Kumar Hota allegedly thrashed the boy September 15, around 10pm.

The incident was recorded on the headmaster’s mobile phone with the help of other students. In the video, the boy was seen being forced to speak against the negligence of the school cook, Tikeram Majhi, and the matron, before the district collector. When the boy remained silent, he was subjected to torture. The video was later circulated on social media. After learning about it, the student’s family members approached Nuapada Sub-Collector Surmi Soren and Sinapali Block Welfare Extension Officer Sunil Samal, demanding action.

Following the complaint, Additional District Welfare Officer Sanjay Bhoi and District Inspector Uday Singh Majhi visited the Ashram school for an inquiry. During the probe, the headmaster reportedly admitted to the allegations. The officers later submitted their report to Collector Madhusudan Das. Based on the report, Hota was suspended from duty. The suspension order mentioned that he will remain attached to the block office until further notice.
