King Charles' touching three-word comment as he marks major milestone

King Charles delivered a devastating three-word statement as he reached a major turning point in his reign. Charles was formally declared monarch by the Accession Council three years ago today, on September 10. It came just two days following the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth , who died aged 96. He was 73-years-old at the time. Since ascending to the throne, he has devoted himself to championing various causes. These included a variety of things including environmental issues, healthcare, the arts and education, working alongside his consort, Queen Camilla, as reported by the Mirror . He vowed his commitment to the people and causes he represents in a speech to the nation as he assumed power after his mother’s death , following her example. Addressing the public at the time, Charles declared: “I speak to you today with feelings of profound sorrow.” He touched hearts nationwide when they heard how he spoke of the late monarch, calling her “my beloved mother”. “Throughout her life, Her Majesty The Queen – my beloved mother – was an inspiration and example to me and to all my family, and we owe her the most heartfelt debt any family can owe to their mother; for her love, affection, guidance, understanding and example,” he continued. “Queen Elizabeth was a life well lived; a promise with destiny kept and she is mourned most deeply in her passing. That promise of lifelong service I renew to you all today.” The King went on to acknowledge the “personal grief” his family were experiencing, as well as the grief and “deep sense of gratitude” felt by “so many of you in the United Kingdom, in all the countries where The Queen was Head of State, in the Commonwealth and across the world”. He continued: “In 1947, on her twenty-first birthday, she pledged in a broadcast from Cape Town to the Commonwealth to devote her life, whether it be short or long, to the service of her peoples. “That was more than a promise: it was a profound personal commitment which defined her whole life. She made sacrifices for duty. “Her dedication and devotion as Sovereign never wavered, through times of change and progress, through times of joy and celebration, and through times of sadness and loss.” Although Charles ascended to the throne in September 2022, his coronation ceremony wasn’t held until May 6, 2023. The Church of England service occurred at Westminster Abbey in London, before Royal Family members ventued to Buckingham Palace in a ceremonial parade. There, they made their appearance on the palace balconies. An incredible 20.4million viewers are believed to have watched in the UK, whilst globally an estimated two billion people witnessed the proceedings on television from home.
