BJP MLC writes to Karnataka CM, stresses need for campaign to spread awareness against child sexual abuse

D.S. Arun, BJP MLC, has written to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah demanding measures to avoid incidents of sexual abuse of children and pregnancy among minor girls in Shivamogga district.

In his letter to the Chief Minister, Mr. Arun, who represents local bodies in the Legislative Council, stated that there had been quite a few incidents of minor girls delivering babies in the district, leaving the people in shock.

“The State government should take measures to spread awareness among boys and girls in schools and colleges. There was a need for compulsory sex education in schools and colleges. Education institutes should involve doctors, counsellors, and psychiatrists in spreading awareness among the students,” he said.

The MLC urged the government to form district-level committees to handle such cases, and find ways to avoid them in the coming days. He also stressed the need for a State-wide campaign involving parents, teachers, and leaders of various organisations to spread awareness.

Mr. Arun requested the Chief Minister to ensure proper healthcare and counselling for the victims.
