New Delhi: Prime minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday welcomed the 20-point peace proposal for Gaza announced by US President Donald Trump and endorsed by key members of the Organisation of Islamic Conference, including the Arab World. The PM hoped that it provided a viable pathway for both Israelis and Palestinians. In a post on X, Modi said “We welcome President Donald J Trump’s announcement of a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict. It provides a viable pathway to long-term and sustainable peace, security and development for the Palestinian and Israeli people, as also for the larger West Asian region.” Modi said “We hope that all concerned will come together behind President Trump’s initiative and support this effort to end conflict and secure peace.”On Monday, the White House released a 20-point document that called for immediate ceasefire, exchange of hostages held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel, a staged Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, Hamas disarmament and a transitional government led by an international body. The proposal was released following a meeting between Trump and the Israeli PM in the Oval Office. During this trip, the Israeli PM also telephoned the Qatari leader to deliver an apology for violating sovereignty. This was the Israeli leader’s fourth visit to the White House since Trump assumed office in January this year.Speaking alongside Netanyahu at the White House, Trump said they were very close to a deal but warned that Israel would have “full US support” to act if Hamas rejected the plan.Live EventsOn his part, Netanyahu praised Trump as a friend of Israel, but also put some distance between himself and some items in the US leader’s plan, including the reforms being demanded of the internationally recognised Palestinian Authority and the prospects for eventual Palestinian statehood.Pakistan’s endorsement of the Trump’s peace plans for Israel has given birth to speculations that Islamabad may be holding backchannel talks with Israel as part of Abraham Accord 2.0. India is keeping a close watch if Pakistan establishes diplomatic ties with Israel in future under Trump’s patronage. The Pakistan PM, during his recent visit, met the head of American Jewish Committee, Israel’s influential lobby group in the USA.Add as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now!
