Ibiza likened to Final Destination as flooding hits with whole island 'in chaos'

A British holidaymaker in Ibiza has declared the island “is done” after his Mediterranean getaway turned into a complete catastrophe. Travel blogger Taylor Budd claimed he had endured a “natural disaster” on Tuesday (September 30) as the Spanish island was battered by torrential downpours and flooding . Posting on TikTok , he shared clips of his surroundings and disclosed he couldn’t venture in most directions due to the deep floodwater . “It has been an absolute nightmare – we got a really loud alert on our phones everywhere on the island,” he explained in a video. “It told us to stay away from the sea, from rivers and if you’re on the bottom floor of a high-rise or hotel to get to upper floors.” Taylor disclosed that the alert had sent everyone in the holiday destination into “panic mode”, whilst he was trapped for four hours in a taxi as his vehicle became “really stuck” during a trip from San Antonio to Playa d’en Bossa – setting him back €100 (£87). “I’m more concerned that there was water dripping out of the walls on the motorway,” Taylor went on, likening it to the movie Final Destination. He mentioned that whilst Ibiza “needs rain”, the island “isn’t cut out” for such severe weather, with its drainage infrastructure clearly unable to handle the deluge. “There’s flooding everywhere, the whole island is at a standstill, shops are shut and people’s apartments are flooded,” he said. Taylor went on to voice concerns that buildings might crumble due to Ibiza’s infrastructure and architecture “not built” the same way as in the UK. Whilst circumstances had obviously got better by evening, he confessed it remained “carnage” with establishments including Cova Santa delaying events. He concluded by displaying knee-deep flooding whilst battling to locate a taxi driver prepared to tackle the harsh weather. “It’s a freaking joke,” Taylor raged. Yesterday evening, Ibiza Airport released an official statement regarding the extreme weather, following footage emerging of water cascading through the roof. The airport announced on its website: “If you are planning to fly to/from Ibiza Airport, please check with your airline about the status of your flight.” This followed Pablo Gárriz, Director General of Emergencies, revealing Ibiza experienced up to 200mm of rainfall in merely two hours. He stated the storm’s destructive capability “has been evolving” but noted the weather system seemed to be weakening. Approximately 220 holidaymakers found themselves stranded after a slope in the Puig des Molins district collapsed and sent massive boulders cascading towards two hotels beneath. Following the incident, scores of police officers and ambulances encircled the location, but fortunately only a handful of injuries were recorded and all hotel visitors were ultimately rescued from the structure and relocated close by.
