It was prior to the start of last season that UNC Greensboro men’s basketball coach Mike Jones expressed the wish that his team could face more of its in-state rivals.
The 2025-26 schedule released on Tuesday grants his wish.
UNCG’s non-conference schedule lists 13 games, including a trip to NC State on Nov. 3, preceded on Nov. 6 by a home game against Elon. There’s also a game against Queens in Charlotte on Nov. 20 as part of the two-year scheduling alliance for men’s basketball between the Southern Conference and Athletic Sun Conference. The Spartans will play at UNC Asheville on Dec. 2, then head across the state to play East Carolina in Greenville on Dec. 6.
There’s also the in-town rivalry between UNCG and North Carolina A&T. The game is scheduled for Dec. 16 at First Horizon Coliseum.
“Having my friend, Coach (Will) Wade at NC State, has helped secure a game our fan base wants to see, for which I’m grateful. Similarly, playing Elon and NC A&T is great for the local community and we are also looking forward to playing other schools around North Carolina,” Jones said in a statement. “Overall, we look forward to some great competition in the First Horizon Coliseum, on campus in Fleming Gymnasium and around the country!”
The season opens on Nov. 4 with a road game against Kansas State.
Three of UNCG’s 13 non-conference game will be played in Jacksonville, Florida, during Thanksgiving week. Two of those three games will be part of the Jacksonville Classic, when the Spartans meet Youngstown State and Delaware. The third game is against Miami University.
The Spartans begin SoCon play on New Year’s Day against Chattanooga at Fleming Gym. The regular season ends with road games against Chattanooga on Thursday, Feb. 20, and Samford two days later.
