George Clooney, 64, reveals he is 'winding down' his acting career to focus on his 8-year-old twins with wife Amal

He has been Hollywood’s ultimate heartthrob for decades.

But now George Clooney, 64, has said that he is ‘winding down’ his acting career as he prefers time with his children.

The long time actor, director and producer, made clear that chasing big projects is no longer a priority.

Clooney said: ‘I am not in that mad rush to succeed anymore.’

‘I have had my career in many ways and you know things were winding down in a way, so I get to be home with my kids a lot and it’s fun.

‘I’m still young enough that I can run around with them. That is going away quickly. But I can still do it right now. So I am having a really fun time,’ he told Fox’s Extra.

Clooney, who spoke at the New York Film Festival premiere of his latest release Jay Kelly, reflected on how the last decade saw him sacrifice time with his children to work in Hollywood.

The Ocean’s Eleven star, who shares 8-year-old twins Alexander and Ella with wife Amal, said: ‘It certainly isn’t just a showbiz experience.

‘You probably have these same conversations and almost every industry has these conversations which is: “I wish I hadn’t missed this thing that my kids were doing when I was working.”

‘It is coming to terms with the sacrifice you make to succeed in any business.’’

Jay Kelly follows a friendship between a famous actor, played by Clooney, and his manager, portrayed by Adam Sandler, as they travel through Europe and reflect on their life choices, relationships, and regrets.

Clooney, whose breakthrough came in his thirties when he was cast in ER, insists that his career is no reflection of Kelly’s journey going through an ‘existential crisis’ in the comedy drama.

He said: ‘That is not something I have to worry about. I got to be successful much later in life. You can handle those things easier when you are older.’

He arrived at the premiere of Jay Kelly, which is released in cinemas November 14, with his human rights lawyer wife, 47, who stunned in a red mini dress featuring a velvet top and skirt featuring floral detailing.

The pair recently celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary with an intimate dinner.

Asked how he planned to celebrate in 11 years time, he joked: ‘Mostly be me gumming bread because I’m 64, so I’ll be 75.’

The star-studded cast also features fellow Oscar winners Laura Dern, Jim Broadbent as well as Riley Keough, Isla Fisher, Billy Crudup and Barbie director Greta Gerwig.

Adam, 59, was joined by his family for the premiere, held during the New York Film Festival.

The comedy icon ditched his typical quirky style for a smartened-up red carpet look, consisting of a slick suit and glossy footwear.

He was joined by his wife, Jackie Sandler, 51, and their two daughters, Sunny, 16, and Sadie, 19.

Riley wowed in a gorgeous black tiered dress with sexy leg skit and dazzling accents along the bust and waist.

Laura Dern also sported an edgy all-black look, an enchanting lace dress with matching cape.

While Amal was present to support her husband, she has long been known for her prestigious law career – which has seen her represent several high-profile clients, including former Maldivian president Mohamed Nasheed and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

The Beirut-born star, who moved to the UK when she was two to escape the Lebanese War, is an adjunct law professor at Columbia Law School and a Visiting Professor of Practice at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford.
