Madurai BSNL hopes to increase its market share, rolling out 4G services: General Manager

Madurai BSNL business area comprising six districts has successfully rolled out 4G services with indigenous telecommunication equipment, said its General Manager P. Loganathan.

Addressing the media on the eve of silver jubilee celebrations of BSNL on October 1, Mr. Loganathan said that more than 90% of the 1,000 towers in Madurai, Dindigul, Theni, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga and Virudhunagar had been equipped with 4G services.

“The delay in allocation of 4G spectrum to BSNL was due to the policy decision of the Union Government to have an indigenous technology for the services,” he added.

Stating that BSNL Madurai has started to reduce its loses in the last few years, he hoped that in the next three years, the public-sector telecom operator would turn into a profit-making unit.

BSNL has revamped its landline connections by replacing the old equipment using copper cables with state-of-the-art internet protocol-based equipment to provide fibre-to-the-home connections which gives superior data and voice services.

Informing that Madurai BSNL has got 69,000 FTTH connection as against the installed capacity of 3 lakh connections, he hoped that with the launch of IP television services, the demand for FTTH connections will go up.

Similarly, Madurai BSNL had 4.2 lakh mobile connections. After resolving the teething problems by December 2025, seamless 4G connection would be available.

“We will wind up the 3G services thereafter, though the 2G services would continue,” he added.

BSNL was planning to increase the mobile connections by 2 lakh with the 4G services.

BSNL has planned a slew of events to mark the silver jubilee celebrations on Wednesday. It included painting and quiz competitions for students, cultural programmes and honouring of loyal customers, franchises and partners.

All offices and exchanges would be illuminated.
