Sheridan Smith is reportedly no longer on speaking terms with a fellow actor, with rumours suggesting they have “drifted apart”. It’s reported that she and former Emmerdale star Charley Webb, who were once close friends, are no longer in contact. Sheridan, 44, and Charley, 37, best known for her role as Debbie Dingle on Emmerdale, had been friends throughout 2023 and the previous year. They enjoyed holidays together and even spent last Christmas with their respective children. However, it’s now reported that their friendship came to a “rather abrupt” end. Sheridan, who recently starred in ITV’s I Fought the Law, and Charley are said to have ended their relationship earlier this year, with the Sun reporting they are no longer speaking. Insiders told the publication that there was a change in the dynamics earlier this year and that Sheridan’s decision to relocate to Doncaster a few months ago resulted in the friends “taking different paths”. Charley is believed to have been living with Sheridan after separating from Matthew Wolfenden, with whom the former soap actress has three children. An insider stated: “It was no secret that they had a very intense and fulfilling relationship, but then Sheridan decided to move house and Charley wasn’t really part of those plans.” It’s been suggested that Charley developed a close bond with fellow actor Wallis Day around the same time, leading to her “drifting apart” from Sheridan, reports the Mirror . A source revealed that friends were taken aback by the situation as the pair had once been “inseparable”. Reports suggest that while Sheridan has relocated up north, Charley remains primarily in London, auditioning for roles when not in Yorkshire with her children. It’s understood that she often indulges in nights out in the city, a lifestyle that starkly “contrasts” with Sheridan’s. The insider stated: “It’s quite a stark contrast to Sheridan’s life now, she’s always so busy with work and raising her son.” They added that the Royle Family actress leads a “quiet life” with her family and is “really happy” being back up north. There are also reports that friends have been questioning the whereabouts of a Pomeranian dog, which Sheridan and Charley are believed to have owned together. A source told The Sun: “The dog was always with Charley and also Sheridan – but no one has seen it for ages, they think he’s up in Doncaster with Sheridan.” The source further hinted to the publication that Charley has some “exciting” auditions lined up. However, they claimed that despite having the support of other loved ones, she won’t have Sheridan as her “cheerleader” anymore. Over the years, fans have been offered glimpses into Sheridan and Charley’s friendship. This includes Charley sharing posts on Instagram about their holiday abroad to Greece together during the summer last year. Recently, they enjoyed the Christmas period together. Charley posted a series of snapshots from the holiday celebrations, featuring one with some of Sheridan’s family members. She captioned the update: “Christmas 2024. Might have been one of my favourites.”
