A ride broke down in dramatic fashion at a school carnival in Los Angeles, which led to several people getting stuck inside.
The incident occurred Friday at the ‘Family Fun Day’ event at Bishop Conaty – Our Lady of Loretto High School in the Pico-Union area.
Video obtained by the Daily Mail showed that the malfunctioning ride had several cars, one of which violently detached from the metal frame and hit another car.
Another video showed someone scaling the exterior of the ride, most often known as The Zipper, after one of the carriages fell off.
The ride was at a total standstill with people inside for an hour, witnesses told KABC.
First responders with the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived at around 9pm to help get people off the ride safely. No one was hurt, authorities said.
The Archdiocese of Los Angeles provided the following statement to KABC:
‘We are grateful that no one was injured over the weekend when a carnival ride, operated by a third party, experienced a malfunction at a Bishop Conaty High School event, the Archdiocese said.
‘We are very thankful to the first responders who arrived to help. The event was able to proceed as scheduled. The safety and well-being of all in our parishes, schools and ministries remain our top priority.’
The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health told KABC that it has opened an investigation into the incident.
