The Detroit Lions towered over the Cleveland Browns last weekend, and that says a lot about this team, since the Browns were going into this game ranked the No. 1 defense in the league by Fox Sports and largely considered the best defense around. Considering that Fox had the Lions‘ defense at No. 14 and the team pummeled the Browns, maybe they’ll change that ranking soon.
Regardless, the Lions are now 3-1 and heading into a game against the 2-2 Bengals this Sunday, October 5. While the Lions should be favored in this one, the game is on the road, so they’ll have to really show up and be on point to take it. Plus, the Bengals just fell in a big way to the Broncos, so they’re hungry for a win.
Making sure players are healthy is one of the most important factors to a team’s success in the NFL. So, how are the Lions doing on the injury front? Head coach an Campbell has passed along some good news on the team’s injury situation.
Detroit Lions News is Good for Week 5
We’ve been waiting to hear how Detroit Lions cornerbacks D.J. Reed and Terrion Arnold are doing since both of suffered injuries against the Cleveland Browns last weekend. Now, Campbell has shared an update about those players, and it’s a good one.
Beginning with Reed, Campbell said he he would be down for a while but that it’s not a season-ending injury. “He’s going to be down for a while, but the good news is it’s not a season-ender,” Campbell told reporters. “We will get him back, it looks like.”
Campbell didn’t say whether Reed would go on injury reserve but said it would be probably around the four-week mark to getting him back. “Could be, could be. It’ll be close, I think. It could be in that range,” our favorite Metallica fan said. It’s big news that he could be back sooner rather than later.
With Arnold, Campbell made it sound like they’re deciding on if he’ll play this weekend, but other than that, he should be back. “I don’t think this is a huge thing, but the question is: Is he going to be ready for this week?” Campbell said. “That would be really the question. And if it’s not this week, he should be back by next week for sure.”
Dan Campbell is Confident in the Detroit Lions’ Backups
Campbell also sounded confident in the team’s backups, if they’re needed for the long haul. “Our next guys up get reps. They get real reps,” he said. “They get our speed, our work, running our plays. So, they’re expected to step in, and we don’t lose a beat.”
He added, “They know that. That’s the expectation here, and that’s the standard. Whether it’s Dorse(y) or Rock, they’re going to be ready to go. They’re going to step up. We’re not going to miss a beat. That’s the whole point.”
The Cincinnati Bengals are without their franchise quarterback Joe Burrow for a while, and they could be looking to do a trade before the November deadline. Their top trade target, of course, is Trey Hendrickson. In a Friday, September 26 piece, Nick Halden of Detroit Jock City says that “no potential pass rusher on the trade or free agent market has more impact than Hendrickson.”
