Urvashi Rautela arrives at ED office under probe in illegal betting app case

Bollywood actress Urvashi Rautela on Tuesday headed to the ED headquarters to join probe in illegal betting app 1xbet case.The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on September 14, issued summons to Rautela and TMC MP Mimi Chakrabarty as part of its probe into online betting platform 1xBet, which is being investigated for alleged money laundering.ED’s action in the betting app case is a part of a broader crackdown on illegal betting platforms and their celebrity promoters, has already involved several high-profile names. Under the case, former cricketer Shikhar Dhawan was summoned by the agency and Suresh Raina also appeared before the investigating body in link to the same case.The probe agency has also questioned cricketers such as Yuvraj Singh and Robin Uthappa apart from actors Sonu Sood, Mimi Chakraborty (a former TMC MP) and Ankush Hazra (Bengali cinema) as part of this investigation over the last few weeks. Live EventsAs per reports, the agency is also expected to attach assets worth crores of rupees of some sportspersons and actors under the anti-money laundering law as part of the probe.ED’s investigation into the online betting case related to the portal 1xBet found that some of these celebrities utilised the endorsement fee paid to them for acquiring a variety of assets, the sources told PTI. The assets were qualified as “proceeds of crime” under the anti-money laundering law.The Union government banned real-money online gaming recently under Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025. The online betting app market in India is worth over $100 billion which is growing at the rate of 30%, according to experts.According to estimates by market analysis firms and probe agencies, there are about 22 crore Indian users in various such online betting apps out of which half (about 11 crore) are regular users.The government recently told Parliament that it has issued 1,524 orders from 2022 till June 2025 to block online betting and gambling platforms.Add as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now!
