ST. LOUIS — Regional officials are poised to announce on Wednesday a new, direct flight to London from St. Louis Lambert International Airport.
A source confirmed Tuesday that British Airways has committed to a nonstop flight to the English capital.
And the St. Louis Partnership sent out a press release Tuesday morning alerting the media to a “major announcement” on Wednesday.
That alert said St. Louis County Executive Sam Page, St. Louis Mayor Cara Spencer and St. Louis County Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Malley would be at the announcement.
This is the second nonstop flight announced in recent years from St. Louis to a major European city.
Four years ago, officials announced direct flights on Lufthansa to Frankfurt, Germany.
The port authority was instrumental in securing that flight, too.
The Port Authority, along with private donors, provided Lufthansa a revenue guarantee prior to the start of the service.
