Toni Braxton To Headline 'He Wasn't Man Enough' Movie For Lifetime

EXCLUSIVE: Grammy winner Toni Braxton is set to headline two upcoming movies for Lifetime as part of her multi-picture deal with the network.
Inspired by her 2000 hit song of the same name, Braxton will star alongside Essence Atkins (Ambitions) and Yvette Nicole Brown (Community) in He Wasn’t Man Enough. The film is set to premiere November 22 at 8/7c as part of the network’s Love of a Lifetime November romance movie slate.
In it, Braxton plays bestselling author Mel Montgomery, whose world unravels when she discovers her boyfriend Richard (Thomas Cadrot, The Night Agent) has been deceiving her. When Mel learns Richard is now engaged to her estranged college friend Monica (Atkins), the two women, with the help of Mel’s loyal best friend Candy (Brown), set aside old wounds to stand together. What begins as betrayal becomes a story of resilience and solidarity—proving Richard picked the wrong trio to mess with. Because in the end, it was never about the man who failed them, but the women who chose each other.
Braxton’s single “He Wasn’t Man Enough” peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100, where it stood for several weeks, and was number one on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart for four weeks.
Debuting in 2026, Toni Braxton’s Breathe Again, reunites Braxton with Atkins, along with Emmy winner Cree Summer (A Different World, Rugrats). The film follows three women—Jennifer (Braxton), Vanessa (Summer), and Evelyn (Atkins)—who meet as contestants on a reality dating show and suffer heartbreak under the spotlight. Their shared rejection sparks an unlikely sisterhood that carries them from Los Angeles to a new life in Seattle. There, they navigate fresh starts, second chances, and the messy, hilarious realities of dating, friendship, and family. Jennifer rediscovers her voice as an artist, Vanessa rebuilds her interior design business while opening herself to love again, and Evelyn faces her grief by daring to embrace joy and possibility. Along the way, the women learn that while romance may come and go, female friendship is the love story that lasts a lifetime.
Both films are executive produced by Braxton, Tanya Lopez and Kenneth Crear for Lifetime. Stan Brooks directs both movies.
