ANIJindal Steel – One of India’s largest blast furnaces at Angul, on track to 12 MTPA capacity

One of the largest steel producers in India, Jindal Steel on Tuesday announced the commissioning of its 240 MT Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) Converter at the Angul steel plant. With this step, the steelmaker has added 3 MTPA of crude steelmaking capacity to its portfolio.With the commissioning of this furnace, the company’s total capacity at Angul has risen from 6 MTPA to 9 MTPA. The steelmaker aims to raise the steelmaking capacity of Angul to 12 MTPA within the current financial year.Subsequently, Jindal Steel also announced the commissioning of Blast Furnace 2 under its expansion plan. This integrated flow of steel into downstream mills ensures steady supplies of Indian-made steel for infrastructure, energy, automobile, oil & gas and real estate sectors. Speaking on the announcement, Naveen Jindal, Chairman, Jindal Steel said, “The new BOF is now running, and the first heat has been tapped. With this, Angul gains real muscle in steelmaking. Jindal Steel further plans to develop a dedicated port at Paradeep, a slurry pipeline and a coal pipe conveyor to enhance supply chain efficiency.
