Asian Cricket President Slams Indian Team For Handshake Snub: 'Dragging Politics...'

Asian Cricket Council President Mohsin Naqvi has criticised the Indian cricket team for their “lack of sportsmanship” as they refused to shake hands with their Pakistani counterparts after an Asia Cup match in Dubai. The two captains didn’t shake hands during the toss time either, in fact, there was no interaction between them whatsoever.
Naqvi, who is also the chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), alleged Suryakumar Yadav and his men dragged politics into the game.
“Utterly disappointed by the lack of sportsmanship today. Dragging politics into the game goes against the very spirit of sports. Let’s hope future victories are celebrated by all teams with grace,” Naqvi posted on X (formerly Twitter).
PCB Wants Match Referee To Be Removed
Meanwhile, PCB released a statement in which it claimed that match referee Andy Pycroft told the captains to not shake hands during the match toss. In a separate post on X, Naqvi said the board has lodged a complaint with the ICC, demanding Pycroft’s immediate removal.
“The PCB has lodged a complaint with the ICC regarding violations by the Match Referee of the ICC Code of Conduct and the MCC Laws pertaining to the Spirit of Cricket. The PCB has demanded the immediate removal of the Match Referee from the Asia Cup,” Naqvi wrote on X.
What Is The Handshake Row?
The Indian team didn’t take part in the customary pot-match handshake ritual with their two unbeaten batters – captain Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube – after hitting the winning runs heading straight to their teammates and entering the dressing room even as Pakistan players waited for them.
Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson revealed that as a follow-on of India’s snub, captain Salman Agha refused to attend the post-match presentation.
Later, Suryakumar said his team came to “just play the game”.
“Our government and BCCI – we were aligned today,” Suryakumar said during the post-match press conference. “Rest, we took a call (of not shaking hands). We came here to just play the game. We have given a proper reply.”
