A target of planting 11.25 lakh palm seeds has been fixed for Erode district as part of the State-wide 2025 Palm Seed Plantation Campaign.
The initiative was reviewed at a consultation meeting held at the Collectorate chaired by Collector S. Kandasamy on Monday (September 29, 2025). He said the campaign is being implemented under the Green Tamil Nadu Mission, spearheaded by the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Forests, with support from District Administrations and the Tamil Nadu Volunteers’ Organisation.
Last year, 44.90 lakh palm seeds were successfully planted across 38 districts and geo-tagged through the Udhavi App. Building on that success, this year’s campaign aims to plant six crore seeds across waterbodies, coastal regions, vacant lands, and to create palm groves.
The campaign, which began on September 16 (World Ozone Day), will conclude on October 15, the birth anniversary of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Targets include 5,000 seeds per panchayat, 20 seeds each by school and college students and government Departments, and 1,000 seeds each by voluntary organisations. All activities will be geo-tagged and recorded via the Udhavi App.
Over one lakh volunteers are expected to participate, with certificates issued to those completing plantations with proper geo-tagging. Palm seed collection will begin immediately, with planting to be completed before October 15.
District Revenue Officer S. Santha Kumar, DRDA Project Director Priya, and Assistant Director (Panchayats) Uma Shankar took part in the meeting.
