A 4-year-old girl from Alberta, Canada, is going viral for stating her case to eat carrot cake.
In a clip on TikTok (@cortnilynnengler), Winslow “Winnie” sits at a table with her mom, Cortni Engler, 34, and her older sister, Londyn at their favorite spot, the Lighthouse Eatery in Sylvan Lake.
While eating her dessert of choice, Winnie starts her “dissertation” of the supposed health benefits of carrot cake.

“It’s cake and carrots, so carrots is healthy for you!” she explains to her mom, claiming the entire slice would surely make her “belly feel better.”
Engler explained that the outing followed gymnastics practice. “They said they were really hungry and asked if we could go to the Lighthouse so they could get their favorite dessert—the infamous carrot cake—after supper,” she told Newsweek.
Even though dinner didn’t exactly disappear from their plates that night, Engler let the girls enjoy dessert.
“I’ve always followed the ‘you provide, they decide’ approach from Feeding Littles [an online blog led by dietitian Megan McNamee], so I’ve never restricted food or held it back as a consequence,” Engler said. “At the end of the day, sometimes that’s what’s most important.”
Engler described Winnie as “the funniest, smartest” girl she knows. With her facial expressions and hand gestures, her mom said she has a knack for debating.
Her eldest daughter, 6-year-old Londyn, meanwhile, is “incredibly smart, kind and logical,” often stepping in to keep Winnie grounded.
“She always exercises practicality and is constantly chalking Winnie’s antics up to her ‘being like a teenager,’” Engler added.
Winnie’s petition for carrot cake went viral on TikTok, amassing over 469,000 views on the platform.
Hundreds of users agreed with Winnie’s reasoning and jumped to her defense in the comments.
“She’s not wrong, let’s be honest,” one user commented.
“Logic… that girl is going places,” another added.
“That’s why I love carrot cake too. Vegetables for my eyesight,” a third wrote.
For Engler, the funniest part of the video was knowing the backstory: before dessert, Winnie had claimed her belly was sore and that she couldn’t eat her supper.
“When the carrot cake came, it was so funny to watch her eat it,” Engler said. “The best part was when she told me it wasn’t helping her belly just yet, so she wanted to eat it all. When I clarified that eating it all was definitely going to help her belly, she just shrugged and said, ‘Probably.’”
