Black Rabbit is the latest Netflix thriller series to hit the streaming service
So far fans are impressed, praising the bleak nature of the show
Black Rabbit’s Rotten Tomatoes critic score is 65% at the time of writing
Black Rabbit joins our weekend streaming recommendations and if you’re looking for a great thriller, this show has gone down incredibly well with fans so far.
The show follows a rising-star restaurateur (Jude Law) who finds himself forced into New York’s criminal underworld when his chaotic brother (Jason Bateman) returns home with loan sharks following his every move.
At the time of writing, the Netflix show’s audience score sits slightly higher than its critical one, with 68% to 65%. That’s still enough to award it a fresh-rating, making it worthy of a place on our best Netflix shows list.

What are people saying about Netflix’s Black Rabbit?

So far, the eight-part series has been met with lots of praise. One thread on the television subreddit is full of positive comments, including one which reads: “Ooh, this looks good. The bleaker the better lol.”
Another said it held their attention, saying: “It was actually a pretty good show. First show on Netflix where I didn’t end up doom scrolling on my phone instead.”
Given Bateman’s involvement, fans have started comparing it to Ozark, the Emmy-winning Netflix drama where he plays a man who ends up becoming money launderers for the mob alongside his wife, played by Laura Linney.

It’s hard to avoid the parallels here and that’s no bad thing, it’s safe to say if you liked Ozark you should give Black Rabbit a go, as the vibes are similar. While Black Rabbit may never reach the highs of Ozark and its 82% Rotten Tomatoes score, people still seem impressed by it.
Two episodes in. So far so good. Jason Bateman is a great actor and director. Hints of Ozark in this as well. #BlackRabbit pic.twitter.com/rmiyP6mdKTSeptember 18, 2025
Batema also directed the first two episodes of Black Rabbit and spoke to Tudum about how, despite the criminal storyline, many fans should relate to the story.
He said: “It’s really about these brothers who love each other but don’t match — one’s a screw-up, and the other is much more buttoned up. Everybody can relate to that.
“Everybody’s either got a sibling, or a friendship where you love being with one another, but it’s kind of dangerous; where that person usually gets you in trouble, but they’re really exciting to be around.”
