What are the most expensive private schools in Delaware?
A private school is one not administered or funded by the government, unlike public districts and charter schools. The First State has a number of Catholic and Episcopal schools, alongside reputable college preparatory schools that draw students from surrounding states.
Private schools are the right fit for many Delaware families. It appears to be true for about 14,700 students across 95 private schools, not including home schools, according to the Delaware Department of Education data in March. That’s about 10% the size of public school population, based on 2024 enrollment figures. Families just have to afford to foot the bill.
Many schools have differing rates as students age, as well as added fees not reflected in base tuition. The average price tag also doesn’t account for factors like scholarships, student aid or state aid for special education, nor does it help in comparing instruction quality, campus culture and more.
For example, St. Andrew’s School has the highest bill on this list at over $72,000 for full tution, but the Middletown all-boarding school also said nearly 44% of students are receiving some kind of financial aid this school year, with the average grant around $53,000.
Here’s just a snapshot of some of the highest tuition costs in the state, for the oldest high school scholars, based on data available online:
