US President Donald Trump has unveiled a 20-point peace plan for Gaza, which has received backing from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and is currently under consideration by Hamas.
The plan proposes an immediate ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, the release of all hostages, and a surge of aid into Gaza, followed by the release of Palestinian prisoners.
A key component of the plan involves a transitional governing committee for Gaza, overseen by an international “Board of Peace”, with Mr Trump indicating that Sir Tony Blair wishes to join this board.
Wes Streeting, the health secretary, acknowledged that Sir Tony’s potential role would “raise eyebrows” due to his Iraq War legacy but highlighted his success in brokering the Good Friday Agreement.
Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey has called for Sir Tony to appear before Parliament to scrutinise his involvement in the peace plan, while Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has welcomed the proposal.
