Young woman killed in horror truck crash just months after moving to Ireland

A cyclist killed in a horror collision with a truck in Co Cork had only recently moved to the area from Japan.

The 26-year-old woman, who moved to Cork city in recent months, was killed when she collided with a truck at the junction of Albert Street and Albert Road at around 6.15pm on Thursday.

The young woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body was taken to the morgue at Cork University Hospital – where a post mortem examination was due to take place.

Garda forensic investigators combed the scene as the road was closed off for several hours.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Cork city yesterday, Thursday 18th September 2025. The collision involving a truck and a bicycle occurred at the junction of Albert Street and Albert Road at approximately 6:15pm.

“The cyclist, a female in her 20s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her body was removed to the morgue at Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination will be arranged. No other injuries were reported.

“The road is closed pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Diversions are in place.

“Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 6:00pm and 6:30pm on Thursday 18th September 2025 are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.”
