A sad and strange day in Manchester yesterday, but Sky put on some assured coverage of a City vs United derby that took place just hours after the news of Ricky Hatton’s death emerged. Hatton was obviously a Mancunian legend and someone beloved by thousands at the Etihad, not least Micah Richards, whose contributions stood out for their heart and warmth.

“He was a very deep person,” Richards said of Hatton on Sky Sports. “He overthought a lot of things and the news is just devastating. It’s ruined my mood for the whole day. He’d be here today celebrating. To get this news now feels surreal. For someone so young for it to happen now, it’s devastating.”
