New Delhi: A 14-year-old Afghan boy managed to travel from Kabul to Delhi by hiding inside the landing gear compartment of a passenger aircraft. His risky adventure, driven by what he described as sheer curiosity, ended with his immediate return to Afghanistan. The boy was identified as Faisal and was later deported back to Kabul. The unusual episode unfolded on Sunday morning when KAM Airlines flight number RQ-4401 touched down at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport after a two-hour journey from Kabul. To the astonishment of ground staff, the teenager was found wandering near the aircraft shortly after its arrival. Airline officials quickly reported the matter to the airport’s security control room. The boy, a native of Kunduz city, was apprehended by airline personnel and later handed over to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). He was then taken to Terminal 3 for questioning. ‘I Did It Out of Curiosity’ During interrogation, the boy admitted that he had sneaked into Kabul airport undetected and somehow managed to climb into the rear central landing gear compartment of the plane. “I did this out of curiosity,” he reportedly told officials. The boy survived the 94-minute journey despite freezing temperatures and low oxygen at 30,000 feet. What makes the incident even more alarming is that he survived the extreme conditions inside the landing gear section during the flight, where temperatures can plummet and oxygen levels drop dangerously low. After initial questioning, the boy was placed on the same KAM Airlines flight, which departed around 12:30 pm on Sunday, returning him to Afghanistan. Security officials also carried out a detailed inspection of the aircraft. Inside the landing gear, they found a small red-coloured speaker that the boy had apparently carried with him. The aircraft was declared safe after thorough anti-sabotage checks, and normal operations resumed.
