92-Year-Old Man Dies Waiting for Care at NRH, Investigation Launched Health and Wellness Minister Kevin Bernard has ordered a full investigation into the death of a 92-year-old man who was reportedly left waiting for nearly an hour before receiving medical attention at the Northern Regional Hospital (NRH). Bernard said it is “deeply concerning to learn of the tragic incident” and stressed that “no one should be denied urgent care.” He added, “If it is confirmed that there was negligence, failure to triage appropriately, or disregard for the patient’s critical condition, we will ensure that those responsible are held accountable.” The incident came to light after a social media user shared a post describing how his father died while waiting for treatment, despite being in severe pain. The relative of the deceased claimed hospital staff told him, “We are busy sir wait outside!” “After finally when my girlfriend run in side and said and say my father in law AINT breathing Everybody start scramble like ants,” the relative added. This incident is not the first time NRH has faced criticism for alleged negligence. Earlier complaints accused the hospital of mishandling cases involving a firefighter and an eleven-year-old child. Bernard said the ministry has “zero tolerance for any staff who fail in their duty to serve the people of Belize with dignity and urgency.” “The findings of the investigation will guide immediate corrective actions to ensure such a tragedy is not repeated,” Bernard added.
