Senior AIADMK leader and Gobichettipalayam legislator K A Sengottaiyan was expelled from the party on Friday, a day after his appearance with the ousted leaders in Ramanathapuram district. The announcement was made by AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, who stripped Sengottaiyan from the primary membership of the party and appealed to members not to have any ties with him. The 77-year-old leader, who had been the school education minister, was AIADMK's headquarters secretary. Sengottaiyan was elected from Sathyamangalam constituency in the 1977 election and from Gobichettipalayam constituency thereafter. This nine-time MLA served as transport minister and has been in the party since it was founded by late Chief Minister M G Ramachandran. Notably, the former state minister was stripped of his party posts in September for serving an ultimatum to Palaniswami to take back into the party fold all those who have been expelled from AIADMK. What led to the expulsion? On October 30, sidelined Sengottaiyan met former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) general secretary T T V Dhinakaran at Pasumpon (Ramanathapuram district) during the Guru puja of Muthuramalinga Thevar. Later, accompanied by Panneerselvam, he met V K Sasikala, former interim general secretary, who was expelled from the AIADMK along with her nephew Dhinakaran. "Sengottaiyan conducted himself contrary to the party's principles, objectives, and policies, and brought disrepute and disgrace to the party," Palaniswami said in the statement. "His association with the expelled persons, despite knowing fully well that no ties should be kept with them, tarnished the party's reputation. Hence, he is removed from all responsibilities, including his position as a primary member with immediate effect," Palaniswami said. 'Sleepless night, will challenge expulsion in HC': Sengottaiyan Meanwhile, K A Sengottaiyan on Saturday said that he will discuss moving the court with his advocates to challenge his expulsion. Speaking to reporters at his farmhouse at Kullampalayam near Gobichettipalayam, the nine-time MLA said, "A 'temporary General Secretary' of AIADMK expelled me from the party, in which I am a member for 53 years, without asking for any explanation about speaking with OPS and others on 30th October at Pasumpon". "I am totally disturbed by the expulsion and feel heavily. I was sleepless on Friday night, as I have been a member of AIADMK since MGR formed the party. Behaving as a dictator, Edappadi Palaniswami expelled me, violating the Rules and Regulations of the party. Soon, I will discuss with the advocates and file a suit against the general secretary of the party for violating party rules in expelling me". Earlier, he claimed that Palaniswamy was responsible for the continuous defeat of AIADMK in Elections since 2021. He also insisted on the readmission of the expelled leaders, like O Panneerselvam, into the party.
