Ballymena Business Improvement District manager Emma McCrea said: ‘ It has been going great today as we are flying with people milling about town and traffic even backed up this morning’. She said that ‘more than 80 shops are participating in this’, adding that all those taking part can be seen on their website. ‘There are 11 shops participating in both shopping centres – and many more on the streets. ‘River Island and New Look are taking part and Rituals and Specsavers are also taking part. ‘The reductions range from 20%, 25% and some are giving 40%.’ She added that ‘as many know we run this every year at this time as shoppers start their Christmas planning for the and the winter season’. Ms McCrea added: ‘The aim of discount day from Ballymena’s point of view is for the business community to have one big celebration of what retail is in Ballymena and to give back to the community. ‘You have no idea how excited businesses get for this and the customers to bring 80 brands together to agree to offer discount on one day is quite unique. ‘It is a celebration for this part of the year,’ she said.
