Voting for the 40-member Bodoland Territorial Council took place in Assam on Monday, with 70.53% votes polled till 4.30 pm. Elections were by and large peaceful. Polling took place at 3,359 polling stations across five districts – Baksa, Chirang, Kokrajhar, Tamulpur and Udalguri – with around 316 candidates in the fray. BTC is a Sixth Scheduled Council under the Constitution of India. Counting will take place on September 26. Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ran a high-voltage campaign in the area for several days. The council is led by regional party United Peoples’ Party-Liberal (UPPL) and BJP is a partner. Another party, which is in the Opposition in the Council – Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF) – is supporting the NDA government in Assam.Add as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now!
