A bicycle collision in San Diego’s Midway neighborhood on Friday afternoon has left a 70-year-old man with serious injuries. The incident occurred in the 4100 block of Sports Arena Boulevard, where the bicyclist was reportedly struck by a pickup truck while attempting to make a left turn.
According to a press release sent via email by the San Diego Police Department, the cyclist riding northbound in the marked bicycle lane turned left into the path of a northbound 1992 Mazda pickup, driven by a 29-year-old male. The senior was ejected from his bicycle and swiftly transported to a local hospital, where he is being treated for multiple fractures and a collapsed lung. The release further details that he sustained fractured ribs, a tibia fracture, and a fibula fracture. Fortunately, the injuries have been confirmed to be non-life-threatening.
Officer J. Perales, the watch commander on the scene, informed that alcohol did not contribute to causing the accident. The San Diego Police Department Traffic Division will be handling the subsequent investigation.
