As we settle into this new post Grand Theft Auto 6 delay world, it's become increasingly clear how Rockstar handles big launches like this. Although another delay can come across as a bit of a shock (even to some insiders), it's pretty much business as usual for the entertainment juggernaut. Seven years ago, Rockstar dealt with another delay, and saw some similar backlash. The thing is, that project turned out wonderfully, and the same can happen for GTA 6. Eventually. Comparing Red Dead Redemption 2's Delay To GTA 6 It Was A Similar Timeframe It's practically ancient history now, but Red Dead Redemption 2 was hit with a similar delay. Initially slated for Q3/Q4 of 2017, Rockstar delayed the game several months into early 2018, then again into October 26, 2018, which would serve as its final date. For those keeping score, GTA 6 was originally expected in "late 2025," but was pushed to June of 2026, and now, to November 19, 2026. It's essentially the same timeline. Knowing this, the second and seemingly final delay not only falls right in line with Rockstar's playbook, but it could also hint that this is the last delay, and that GTA 6 will actually launch on November 19, 2026. Rockstar would be foolish to avoid the holiday rush for what could end up becoming the biggest game on record, and this sets them up nicely to deliver before the end of the year, even with potential production issues. Interestingly, Red Dead Online launched roughly seven months after Red Dead Redemption 2 proper, and had a lot of initial issues. While some of those were addressed and the online portion caught on, it was quietly phased out in 2022 for...you guessed it...more focus on Grand Theft Auto 6. Wer're not quite sure what Rockstar has planned for the next iteration of GTA Online, but extra time could help set that up for success. Red Dead Redemption 2 Ended Up Becoming A Classic Some See It As One Of The Best Of The Genre When Red Dead Redemption 2 was released, it became a critical and commercial darling. Everyone has been talking about it for years, and people still rave about it to this day. Rockstar tends to create that kind of effect on people, but the extra time spent polishing Red Dead Redemption 2 resonated with audiences.
