Brody Dawyot has been a staple of Southwest Virginia high school football for several years now, leading Glenvar with elite quarterback play that includes a powerful passing ability along with a heads-up accompanying rushing ability.
He racks up yards and touchdowns in a hurry, and Friday night was perhaps the best showing of high school career, amassing seven touchdowns as the Highlanders cruised past Cave Spring 49-3 to improve to 3-0 on the season.
In the air, Dawyot completed 14 of 22 passes for 326 yards, averaging over 23 yards per completion, and two touchdowns. On the ground, he ran for 63 yards on 14 carries with five on those carries ending in the end zone. He finished just 11 yards shy of a 400-scrimmage yard game.
“It was just going in the game, preparing for it the week before,” Dawyot told The Roanoke Times. “I knew it was a big game because they’re right across the street from us, like 10-15 minutes away, so we came in the game just ready and prepared.”
For his performance, Dawyot is the Week 3 Roanoke Times high school football player of the week. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound Charlotte commit beat out five other candidates in a reader poll. He garnered 50.7% of the vote.
