Curfew remained in force for the sixth consecutive day in Leh on Monday as the last rites of two locals, killed during the protests on September 24, were held amid tight security. The last rites of ex-serviceman Tsewang Tharchin of Skurbuchan and Rinchen Dadul (21) of Hanu were held on Monday afternoon in which only close relatives, members of the Apex Body Leh and some monks were allowed to participate. The last rites of the two other persons both in their twenties – Stanzin Namgyal and Jigmet Dorjee – were held on Sunday.The ABL members called slain locals “heroes and martyrs” who gave their lives for the people of Ladakh.Lt Governor Kavinder Gupta chaired a meeting to review the overall security situation in the Union Territory. The officials said the situation across Leh and other areas remained peaceful and under control and no untoward incidents were reported from anywhere. The police and paramilitary were deployed on all major roads and barricades were erected to scuttle the movement of any unauthorised vehicle or people.”I can’t believe we are being treated like this. It is a nightmare for people like us who have always stood for the country while protecting its borders,” said Tashi Dorjey, a resident of Leh. Locals have said that due to continuous curbs for six days now, there is a shortage of essentials and a huge number of non-local labourers and tourists stranded in Leh and surrounding areas are facing a massive crisis. “Non-local labourers don’t have money to buy essentials and tourists are also facing problems as some of them have to reschedule their plans and even cancel road trips,” said Tashi Angdus, another local.The prohibitory orders under section 163 BNS also in place in Kargil to avoid any gatherings and meetings.Live EventsAdd as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now!
