600 Expected At Record-Breaking Skating Lesson In Central Park

The iconic rink is marking its 75th anniversary with free admission and a Guinness World Record attempt.
CENTRAL PARK, NY — One of New York City’s most iconic winter spots, Wollman Rink, will mark its 75th anniversary with a weekend of free skating, performances, and a shot at a Guinness World Record for the largest ice skating lesson ever.
The rink’s opening celebration, set for Oct. 24–26, includes free admission on Friday and Saturday, live figure skating shows, festive treats and a Sunday family movie night, organizers said.
On Oct. 25, Wollman Rink is inviting 600 skaters to join a 30-minute lesson led by its Skate School instructors, aiming to beat the 2014 record of 523 skaters.
“This Guinness World Records attempt is just the first of many thrilling experiences skaters can expect this season,” Stacy Shuster, the vice president of Business Development and Community Impact at Wollman Rink, said.
Skaters aged 10 and up can register on the Wollman Rink website to take part. Those who RSVP early will be entered to win family packages, private parties, and Wollman swag, Shuster said.
“For 75 years, Wollman Rink has been a place where New Yorkers and visitors alike make lifelong memories,” said NYC Parks Commissioner Iris Rodriguez-Rosa.
The rink’s Igloo Village, Wollman Café, and Melba’s on the Overlook also return for the season, offering cozy spots to warm up and grab a bite.
Skaters don’t have to join the record attempt to enjoy the festivities, but registration is recommended, organizers said.
