NORMAN — Fort Gibson’s Cooper Hackett, a five-star offensive line recruit and the No. 1 player in the state of Oklahoma for the class of 2027, flipped his college commitment from Texas Tech to Oklahoma on Thursday.
Hackett had been committed to Tech since Aug. 30, but visited the OU campus for the Michigan and Auburn games and was eventually pulled back in by the Sooners. Hackett told Rivals that he agreed to take less money than Tech was offering to commit to OU.
“If I’m in the NFL, which is what I want to do overall, that money is not going to matter, and I’m going to bet on myself a good amount of the time, and that’s what I’m doing,” Hackett told Rivals.
A 6-foot, 250-pound prospect, Hackett is ranked the No. 3 offensive tackle and No. 10 overall player nationally in the class of 2027 by the 247Sports Composite ratings. He also plays basketball at Fort Gibson. Gabe Brooks, scouting analyst for 247Sports, published a report on Hackett in April.
“Very tall, long-armed, big-framed offensive tackle prospect who’s quite lean and will need significant mass added in the coming years; certainly possesses the time and the bulking capacity to gain the necessary weight,” Brooks wrote. “Combines outstanding physical tools with excellent basketball context that reveals functional athleticism transferrable to the gridiron: body control, sudden redirection, explosive movement patterns.
“Also owns highly valuable two-way snaps with respectable defensive production considering youth and full-time offensive duties. Fittingly, also contributes on the block unit. Early indications suggest the potential for an elite offensive tackle who projects to the high-major level with long-term pro upside.”
Hackett becomes the third member of OU’s 2027 recruiting class, joining four-star receiver Demare Dezeurn (Pacific Palisades, California) and three-star offensive tackle Luke Wilson (Southlake, Texas).
OU’s 2027 class ranks No. 9 nationally in the 247Sports Composite team recruiting rankings.
