5 best Prime Video shows I'd binge watch this week (Oct 20-25)

The best shows on Prime Video offer countless hours of entertainment. While you may have bought that Amazon Prime subscription for any number of reasons (Prime deals and two-day shipping rank highly), your membership also unlocks access to a gigantic library of movies and TV shows. With unlimited streaming of both licensed content and Amazon Originals, there’s something for everyone. Prime Video's top 10 shows list is a great way to cut through the noise, and we've included a few of their ranks below. But not every popular title is worth the hype. To help you decide what to watch, we've picked out five series that truly stand out, focusing on Prime Video's most critically acclaimed hits, recent entries in the top 10, and the ones I’m planning to watch (or re-watch) this week. Here are our recommendations for the best Prime Video shows to watch now. 'The Devil's Hour' This psychological thriller follows Lucy Chambers (Jessica Raine), a social worker and struggling single mom who, every morning at exactly 3:33 a.m., finds herself waking up from yet another terrifying nightmare. Each one leaves her scratching her head more than the last, but things take a turn when her premonitions are linked to a recent string of brutal murders. Meanwhile, her troubled son, Isaac (Benjamin Chivers), is showing some disturbing signs that something just ain't right. As Lucy’s world begins to unravel, she’s pulled into a police investigation led by Detective Ravi Dhillon (Nikesh Patel) to catch a local serial killer (Peter Capaldi). It becomes clear that Lucy's fate is inexplicably tied to these murders — and that something much sinister may be pulling all the strings. Watch it on Prime Video ‘Reacher’ Just a whiff of "Reacher" season 4 news was enough to make this fan-favorite crack the Prime Video top 10. There's no release date confirmed, but based on the chatter so far, it's gearing up to be the series's most unhinged season yet. It follows former military police investigator Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson), your typical gruff, no-nonsense grifter who is crisscrossing the country taking out bad guys one by one, with his fists, if need be. The first season sees him set out to clear his name after getting arrested for a murder he didn't commit. His search for answers uncovers a conspiracy involving counterfeit money and local corruption. The latest "Reacher" season 3 drops our fateful hero into an undercover mission that puts him head-to-head with a new villain, Anthony Michael Hall, and his 7-foot-tall henchman, who’s every bit as intimidating as Reacher himself. Watch it on Prime Video 'Gen V' Even the best shows hit a sophomore slump, but not "Gen V," the breakout spin-off of "The Boys." Season 1 debuted with an already strong 91% on Rotten Tomatoes before season upped the ante with a near-perfect 97%. Since its premiere last month, it’s dominated Prime Video’s top 10, holding the #1 spot for weeks. For "The Boys" fans, "Gen V" is practically essential viewing. It follows a group of students at Godolkin University, a Vought-run college designed to groom the next generation of supes. But as they juggle all the messy drama of college life, they uncover something sinister going on behind the scenes that could turn the world on its head. You'll recognize a lot of the same bloody, dark humor of "The Boys" in "Gen V," but with a fun "X-Men" style spin that takes the piss out of all the iconic YA schools that came before it. Watch it on Prime Video 'Fallout' I've got two Pip-Boys within reach as I type this, so you know I went into Prime Video's adaptation with sky-high expectations. I’m happy to say it surpassed every one of them. The eight-episode first season checks all the boxes a "Fallout" fan could ask for: sharp writing, memorable characters, stellar production design, and the series' trademark irreverent humor. Plus, it’s loaded with Easter eggs that fans of the games will instantly recognize and appreciate. The story follows three characters navigating the nuclear wasteland that couldn't be more different: Lucy (Ella Purnell), a wide-eyed vault dweller forced to leave her sheltered life behind; Maximus (Aaron Moten), a soldier doing whatever it takes to climb the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel; and Cooper Howard (Walton Goggins), a former Hollywood actor turned ghoul gunslinger who's lived a thousand lifetimes in between. Fate sends them on a collision course to uncover the disturbing truth behind the vaults, and how humanity's last hope has curdled in the 200 years since the bombs fell. Watch it on Prime Video 'American Horror Story' A spooky season watchlist without one of the defining horror shows of the 21st century? Perish the thought. Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk's "American Horror Story" is a genre-bending anthology series with a kaleidoscope of horror themes and tropes to deliver chilling stories season after season. And it has a powerhouse ensemble cast to boot that includes Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Emma Roberts, Denis O’Hare, Cara Delevingne, and Kim Kardashian, among others. With 132 episodes of spine-tingling horror just waiting to be binged, there's no better way to spend an October weekend. "American Horror Story" has taken home a whopping 17 Primetime Emmys to date, and with 12 seasons under its belt and season 13 in the works, the nightmare fuel just keeps on coming. If you're still on the fence, at least watch season 3. "American Horror Story" really hit its peak when it leaned into the spellbinding power of the witchy women at Miss Robichaux’s Academy.
