49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh have been told they’ve failed in every Rangers metric so far in their ownership tenure. The American investment wing of NFL franchise San Francisco 49ers also owns Leeds United and joined forces with health insurance tycoon Cavenagh to take charge at Rangers. Their tenure has started in rocky fashion, with recruitment heavily criticsed and head coach Russell Martin sacked after a calamitous start domestically and in Europe. Danny Rohl has now replaced Martin and faces Roma in the Europa League on Thursday night, where Rangers have list their opening three games against Genk, Sturm Graz and Brann. Former Italian defender Lorenzo Amoruso will be an interested spectator in the clash, having famously shone for Rangers between 1997-2003, but has been left aghast at the early work of the 49ers at his old club. He says that bad decision after bad decision has been made since their demotion to the lower leagues, and even the 49ers haven’t been able to stem the tide, as he looked ahead to the Roma clash. The club hero told All Roma: “ "After their bankruptcy, there was Gerrard's year, then he decided to tackle the Premier League, where he failed. “There were many bad decisions, and inadequate managers. The Scottish league has always been a two-team affair: Celtic and Rangers. Coming second there, therefore, is a failure. A new, very wealthy and ambitious ownership has taken over, but so far they've got everything wrong: their approach, their manager, their signings. The mistakes aren't those of today, but of the past. “Roma have everything to lose. They're a strong team, ready to attack and counterattack. It won't be easy to assimilate everything Gasperini is proposing, and it will take a few months. Rangers were going through a terrible period. The Scottish league is a very peculiar one, but Rangers are objectively a poor team. Roma can't afford to give them confidence; they'll need to go there and take control of the game, to put the result in the right place straight away." Rohl said of the game: “I saw the video after the RB Leipzig game here at home and what a crazy atmosphere it was. I spoke with some players in the last couple of days from Leipzig, and they all said the atmosphere at Ibrox was really special. "It's also part of why I enjoy being here now. It's about winning games in the league but also having good European nights. I think the last three games were not successful, and tomorrow we have the next chance against a good opponent. “What I have heard so far is that the atmosphere is always special in European games, and hopefully we can bring it together with our performance on the pitch. The next [game] is always the most important one, and of course, in this competition at the moment we have zero points. We need to start as soon as possible to take points, but we face an opponent who has been strong in the league.”
