49ers’ Kyle Shanahan Addresses Brock Purdy’s Status

49ers' Kyle Shanahan Addresses Brock Purdy's Status

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy‘s toe injury surfaced again on Sunday during a 26-21 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
While Purdy finished the game, Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed on Monday that Purdy may not play on Thursday against the Los Angeles Rams. Purdy has already missed two games due to injury this season.
“Hopefully we’ll find out more later today, but any time guys are sore and hurting on a Monday, you usually don’t stress too much about it,” Shanahan told reporters. “But anytime you have a Thursday game, it’s a totally different element.”
“So, I’m concerned with anybody who’s not totally healthy at this moment, but we’ll have to get more information on that later today to really have a clue of what to speculate,” Shanahan added.
49ers Backup QB Mac Jones Also Banged Up
49ers backup quarterback Mac Jones has won both of his starts this season with 563 yards passing and four touchdowns versus a pick. Jones isn’t 100%, however, due to a knee sprain.
Purdy has completed 65.8% of his passes for 586 yards and touchdowns versus four picks. He threw for 309 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday, but he also go picked off twice and completed just 57.9% of his passes.
“I think just getting back out there and throwing and getting into a rhythm, being down two weeks, coming back and feeling out my body and everything, obviously, how my toe feels. Honestly, I don’t know the answer to that,” Purdy told reporters on Sunday regarding his toe injury’s impact.
“But obviously I’m going to watch this film, look at my mechanics and be real with myself and try to fix that,” he added.
Receiver Health a Concern For Niners
Whether Purdy or Jones starts against the Rams, the Niners could also be short on wide receivers for Thursday.
Jauan Jennings sustained a rib injury and Ricky Pearsall a right knee injury on Sunday against the Jaguars. Pearsall didn’t finish the game after attempting to come back from a hard landing on a catch when he injured his knee.
“I was testing out my knee,” Pearsall told reporters on Sunday. “I fell pretty hard on that play on the sideline, trying to keep my feet in bounds, and I fell pretty hard on my knee.”
“I was just feeling pain and a little bit of instability. I wasn’t trying to mess with it,” he added.
Pearsall had four receptions for 46 yards on Sunday. He leads the team with 29 receptions for 327 yards through four games.
“They’re thinking more of a minor PCL or something like that is what our guess is, just landing on it hard,” Shanahan said. “Hopefully it won’t be too bad.”
“Obviously, a huge concern with the Thursday night game and stuff, but we’re not expecting it to be too bad,” he added.
Jauan Jennings: ‘It’s Just Part Of Football’
Jennings injured his rib on a two-point conversion attempt and returned to play. He finished with two receptions for 24 yards.
“It’s just part of football,” Jennings told reporters on Sunday. “I try to let my family, outsiders know that’s part of the game.”
“We get hit, but we bounce back. Playing through injuries is nothing new,” he added.
Jennings is third on the team in receiving with nine catches for 129 yards and a touchdown in three games played. He previously missed the Week 3 game against the Arizona Cardinals.
