Brock Purdy appeared to have some rust during the San Francisco 49ers’ 26-21 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Purdy threw for 309 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in his first game back after missing two games due to a toe injury.
On Monday, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan suggested that Purdy’s toe is still not 100%, as the quarterback feels sore after the game.
“He didn’t indicate it to me during the game,” Shanahan said of Purdy’s soreness during the game, via Cam Inman of Bay Area News Group. “Talked to him on phone last night and said it was starting to bother him. But nothing during the game.”
San Francisco needed Purdy to rush back to play Jacksonville after backup quarterback Mac Jones dealt with a PCL sprain in his left knee during practice last week.

When talking to reporters after the game, Purdy said that his toe felt fine during the contest. But he was unhappy with how he and the offense played.
“We can’t do it. It’s the NFL,” Purdy said, via 49ers Webzone. “And it starts with me throwing better balls and being smart with the ball. And so, I think it really starts there, and I just got to be better. But outside of that, as an offense, it’s something that we harp on every single day, and our team knows it.”
The loss to the Jaguars was the 49ers’ first of the season. The health of Purdy will be a key storyline as San Francisco prepares to play against the 3-1 Los Angeles Rams on “Thursday Night Football.”
The contest is a short turnaround for a quarterback who is experiencing soreness on Monday.
