It’s not an official award, but the San Francisco 49ers should win it anyway. “Most resilient team” is a perfect descriptor of what this San Francisco team has become in the 2025 NFL season. Despite punishing injuries all across the roster — in many cases to their best, most important players — the Niners keep winning. They currently sit at 5-2 and are tied atop the NFC West with the Rams (the Seahawks could join them, pending Monday Night Football). We’re seven weeks into the season, and the 49ers have dropped tough games to the Jaguars and Buccaneers. But more importantly, they’ve overcome their circumstances to knock off teams like the Seahawks, Rams, and Falcons, establishing themselves as one of the teams to beat in the NFC. It’s a testament to the job that 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan has done this season. He’s consistently proven himself one of the best coaches in the league, and if it weren’t for Shane Steichen in Indy, Shanahan would be the clear frontrunner for Coach of the Year. No matter the personnel, Shanahan’s offenses will be elite. And with DC Robert Salah back in the fold, the same can be said for the defense. The San Francisco 49ers Get a Tough Update on Top Pass Rusher ED Bryce Huff On Monday, Shanahan called in to the NBC Bay Area radio show to provide some updates on the players injured in Sunday’s win over the Falcons. This includes ED Bryce Huff, who came over from the Eagles in free agency this season after spending the first few seasons of his career with Saleh on the Jets. “Also, we found out that [Bryce] Huff also has a hamstring,” Shanahan said. “[He’ll] also be in that same boat with possibly missing a couple of weeks.” Shanahan is referencing Niners C Jake Brendel, who also suffered a hamstring injury on Sunday night. It’s remarkable that the 49ers are 5-2 given the mountain of injuries they’ve sustained. Starting QB Brock Purdy has only played two games, with backup QB Mac Jones going 4-1 in his absence. Top WR Brandon Aiyuk is still recovering from a torn ACL suffered last season and has yet to play in 2025. WR Jauan Jennings is playing through five broken ribs and a high- and low-ankle sprain, TE George Kittle missed five games with a hamstring injury, and backups OT Spencer Burford and G Ben Bartch are both on IR. The San Francisco 49ers Continue to Lose Key Defenders As bad as the injuries on offense are, it’s even worse on defense. All-Pro ED Nick Bosa was lost to a torn ACL a few weeks ago, and All-Pro LB Fred Warner suffered a broken and dislocated ankle just last week. Bosa and Warner are two of the 49ers’ best players. San Francisco continues to go on, yet Huff was their best pass rusher aside from Bosa. These injuries continue to get worse for the 49ers, but hopefully Huff can return sooner rather than later.
