40-YO who nearly quit golf secures DP World Tour card by winning the Rolex Grand Final

James Morrison completed one of the most emotional comebacks of his career by winning the Rolex Grand Final and earning back his DP World Tour card for 2026. The 40-year-old Englishman, who almost gave up the game in 2019, shot rounds of 71, 65, 67 and 70 at Club de Golf Alcanada to finish 15-under and win by three strokes. The victory at the Rolex Grand Finale pushed Morrison up 30 spots on the Road to Mallorca rankings, moving him from outside the top 20 to sixth place. It marked a turning point for the veteran, who had battled both poor form and personal struggles in recent years.Speaking to Sky Sports, Morrison opened up about the challenges that nearly ended his career."Tour life's getting a chore, travelling's getting hard. I've got a little boy (Finley) at home, my wife's having some health problems and had surgery two days ago, so there's stuff at home going on that's taken my attention away from the game,” he shared."I really questioned whether that was it. Scotland (July's Scottish Open) was close to being my last-ever event but that's just the way it goes, that's life and you've got to deal with it."Morrison is a two-time DP World Tour winner, with titles at the Madeira Islands Open in 2010 and the Spanish Open in 2015. Once ranked inside the world’s top 100, he struggled after 2017, missing several cuts and losing his full-time tour status. His return began with a tied-30th finish at the D+D Real Czech Masters, followed by a strong result at the Scandinavian Invitation. After a win at the Blot Play9 in June and a consistent run through the season, his win at the Rolex Grand Final earned him a spot back on the main tour. How much did James Morrison earn at the Rolex Grand Final? The 2025 Road to Mallorca season concluded with the Rolex Grand Final supported by The R&A, featuring a total purse of €500,000.
