4 injured in back-to-back military convoy rollovers on icy Richardson Highway

Four members of a military convoy were injured Monday in consecutive rollovers on the Richardson Highway, Alaska State Troopers say. Troopers said in an online release that they were notified just before 1 p.m. that a military vehicle had overturned at Mile 309 near Birch Lake. The driver and both passengers were transported for treatment of their injuries. A military vehicle responding to the scene to extricate the overturned vehicle also rolled over about four miles south of the first collision, troopers said. The driver was transported for medical treatment. The nature of the injuries and military units involved weren’t immediately available. Photos from the area showed very icy conditions at the time of the rollovers. The highway runs between Fairbanks and Valdez; the rollovers occurred about 40 miles north of Delta Junction. Military convoys travel it regularly.
