35 NIT Rourkela scientists ranked among world’s top 2 per cent by Stanford–Elsevier survey

“In a major recognition of research excellence, 35 scientists from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela have been featured in the prestigious Stanford–Elsevier Top 2% Most Cited Scientists list. Advertisment The global ranking, widely respected in academic and research circles, acknowledges scientists based on the impact of their research work, citation index, and other critical parameters. The list features two categories — Career-Long Impact and Single-Year Impact (2024). As many as 17 NIT Rourkela faculty members earned a spot on the Career-Long Impact list, while 29 faculty members were recognised for their research contributions during 2024. Advertisment Notably, 13 faculty members appeared in both lists. In addition, two PhD scholars from the institute also made it to the rankings. Congratulating the achievers, Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao, Director of NIT Rourkela, said, “This achievement reflects our efforts in advancing research and generating new knowledge. The high-impact publications and pioneering work of our scientists have set new standards in their respective fields. We remain committed to further enriching our academic environment so that transformative ideas and impactful discoveries continue to flourish at NIT Rourkela.” The Stanford–Elsevier database classifies scientists across 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields under the Science-Metrix classification. The latest edition, based on Scopus data up to the end of 2024, highlights the top 100,000 scientists globally by citation score or those in the top 2% percentile of their fields.
