32-year-old breaks silence on Manchester United links; unfinished business a motivational factor
Manchester United are monitoring Brighton boss Fabian Hürzeler to replace Ruben Amorim
Manchester United continue to struggle for consistency, and the pressure on Ruben Amorim increases with every poor result. The team has already lost three of their opening six Premier League matches, and their failure to build momentum puts the manager under serious scrutiny. Reports now suggest that United are considering alternatives, and one of the main names linked is Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler. According to Sky Sports, the 32-year-old spoke about the rumours but kept his comments respectful towards Amorim.
He said that tough decisions and speculation are part of the job. However, he added that he would not comment on another coach’s future. Hürzeler then spoke about his own role. He said he feels privileged to lead Brighton and remains very happy with his position.
The German also made it clear that he still has plenty of work to do at Brighton, and he does not want distractions to affect the club’s progress. His response showed professionalism and loyalty, but the speculation will continue. United always attract rumours after poor spells, and the talk of Hürzeler as a possible successor to Amorim only adds fuel to the debate about the club’s direction.
“Tough decisions and rumours are always part of this job, so you have to accept it, you have to deal with it, but I really want to say that I have a lot of respect for Ruben Amorim, so I won’t talk about his job or any rumours that might come. Regarding him, I’m really privileged to be a coach for Brighton and Hove Albion. I’m very happy here, and we still have a lot of work to do.”
Would Hürzeler fit Manchester United?
Fabian Hürzeler’s record as a manager is pretty good. He guided St. Pauli back to the Bundesliga after a 13-year absence, and he became the youngest manager to arrive in the Premier League. The German helped Brighton finish eighth in the Premier League in his very first season, and now his side is 10th in the league after six games.
Manchester United should be attracted by his success and tactical style. Under him, the team presses with intensity, attacks vertically, and changes formations depending on the opposition. The 32-year-old uses a 4-4-2, 3-4-3, or even a 4-2-4 and always aims to overload the final line, make deep runs into the box, and create direct chances rather than recycle possession endlessly.
Difference with Amorim
By contrast, Amorim relies on a more rigid system. He sets his team in a 3-4-3, keeps rotations minimal, and asks players to stick to fixed zones. This structure can bring stability, but it limits creativity. United’s struggles show how opponents disrupt their rhythm too easily. Appointing Hürzeler would mark a clear tactical shift and would require players to adapt to pressing and constant movement.
This style may appeal to fans who want a more proactive approach, but it raises doubts about whether the squad can adjust quickly. Replacing Amorim with Hürzeler also carries risk, as he has never managed a top-six club under such scrutiny.
Even so, his ideas and results at Brighton suggest long-term potential. With tension already high at Old Trafford, especially after Antony called out Manchester United’s disrespect ahead of his 2025 summer exit, and with Dusan Vlahovic chased in a transfer battle with Bayern Munich and Chelsea, the club’s choices in the next few months will be crucial. Hürzeler may not yet be proven at the very highest level, but his ambition and adaptability show why he deserves serious consideration.
