Marvel Studios dropped its official Halloween viewing list, and it’s the perfect mix of monsters, witches, and the superpowered undead. While the MCU may not always be horror-focused, the universe does embrace its darker, spookier side every once in a while. This Halloween season, Marvel Studios recently posted on Twitter/X to confirm its official line-up of MCU projects to watch while waiting for trick-or-treaters. Here are all three must-watch MCU projects this Halloween, and why each one is a solid addition to any spooky season marathon. Marvel's Werewolf By Night (2022) Since Werewolf by Night's release in October 2022, the unique MCU project has absolutely become a Halloween favorite. Directed by Michael Giacchino (who's best known for being a composer), Werewolf by Night is a TV special event with a runtime of just under an hour. Completely shot in black-and-white, the MCU special is a love letter to classic monster movies with some solid practical effects (a color version has since been released on Disney+ as well). The special follows Jack Russell (Gael García Bernal), a monster hunter hiding an incredibly dark secret about his own true monstrous nature. The special also stars Laura Donnelly as Elsa Bloodstone, who's grappling with her own complicated monster hunter history. Following its successful and popular release, Werewolf by Night stands as a key MCU project that began generating greater calls for Marvel to continue exploring its more supernatural side going forward. Werewolf by Night is one of Marvel Studios' best experiments when it comes to playing with new themes and tone. For fans craving something atmospheric and standalone this Halloween, it’s easily the MCU’s spookiest triumph (while also being the quickest project to watch out of the three). Agatha All Along (2024) The MCU has indeed been exploring its spookier and more supernatural side in the years since Werewolf by Night, and 2024's Agatha All Along is a prime example. Continuing the story of Kathryn Hahn’s witchy fan-favorite from WandaVision, it makes all the sense in the world that Marvel Studios has placed the critically acclaimed spin-off series in their official Halloween lineup. Exploring Agatha Harkness’ life after WandaVision as she attempts to regain the magic taken from her by Wanda Maximoff, Agatha soon finds herself assembling a brand-new coven of witches to help her travel down the fabled Witches' Road. Her dark past is also explored. The series also includes a mysterious young man (played by Joe Locke) who joins Agatha's quest. Likewise, his mysterious connections to Wanda Maximoff's "Hex" are gradually revealed over the course of the 8-episode series, which is very much the second chapter of the trilogy that began with 2021's WandaVision (2026's VisionQuest being the confirmed third and final chapter). The MCU show's incredible ensemble cast also includes Aubrey Plaza, Patti LuPone, Ali Ahn, Sasheer Zamata, and Debra Jo Rupp, each of whom is fantastic in their own right. That said, Kathryn Hahn is rightfully the major star of this series, which is equal parts horror, comedy, and mystery. As Marvel’s first true witch-centered series, Agatha All Along is an ideal must-watch for Halloween. As eerie as it is funny, the show is also another rare look at the MCU’s supernatural side, something the universe can always do more of. Marvel Zombies (2025) First announced back in 2021, Marvel Zombies has finally arrived in 2025...and it’s everything horror-loving MCU fans hoped it would be. The four-part animated series expands on Marvel's What If…? season 1, episode 5, fully diving into the apocalypse that left so many of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes infected as mindless, hungry, monsters. Set in an alternate MCU overrun by zombie hordes, there are very few heroes left who haven't been turned. Nevertheless, a resistance is formed featuring the likes of Yelena Belova, Shang-Chi, and Ms. Marvel, who assemble against some truly impossible-looking odds. Additionally, Marvel Zombies' TV-MA rating allows Marvel Studios to push the boundaries visually and emotionally, with scenes rivaling the tension of classic zombie cinema and television. How else would we get an unforgettable shot of Spider-Man spinning webs and ripping the heads of an entire horde of the undead? What makes Marvel Zombies perfect for Halloween isn’t just its gore or its scares...it’s the tragedy. Watching icons become monsters (while the survivors struggle to live and restore the world) gives this miniseries some truly haunting weight. Marvel Zombies is dark, cinematic, and unapologetically twisted. Following the conclusion of this intense first season, there have been teases that a second season could soon be greenlit for the future. Being set in an alternate timeline, no hero can be considered safe, and you never know who will be next to join the undead and the armies of the zombified Scarlet Witch, renamed for this series as the Queen of the Dead. While her unique powers over chaos magic allowed her to retain her intelligence, she's still been corrupted as the animated series' primary villain.
