3-Day State conference of Radiology and Imaging begins

A three-day annual State conference of the Andhra Pradesh State Chapter of the Indian Radiology and Imaging Association (AP IRIA) commenced at the GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (GIMSR) here on Friday. A large number of radiologists, academicians, and postgraduate students from across Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring States are participating in the conference. The three-day event is a platform for gaining hands-on learning, academic discussions, and knowledge sharing, symbolising the progressive growth of radiology as a speciality in the State. The first day of the conference featured a workshop on ‘fetal radiology’, introducing live simulation-based learning for the first time in Andhra Pradesh. This workshop was aimed to bridge the gap between theory and real-world skill application in fetal imaging and intervention. This initiative marks a significant milestone in radiology training, promoting safety, precision, and confidence in performing minimally invasive prenatal techniques, according to a statement issued by the organisers. The second and third days will feature plenary lectures, interactive panel discussions, and scientific paper presentations. The academic committee received 160 scientific papers, reflecting the growing research enthusiasm among young radiologists in the state. The top 12 papers will be selected for oral presentation, and the best three will be recognized with awards for excellence in research and presentation. Another major attraction will be the State-Level Radiology Quiz, designed to challenge and inspire postgraduate trainees. The quiz will be conducted by Professor and Head of Radiology at AIIMS New Delhi Raju Sharma. He will also deliver the prestigious Kakarla Subba Rao Oration, instituted in memory of the late Padma Bhushan award winner Dr. Kakarla Subba Rao, the doyen of Indian radiology. A highlight of the conference will be the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Professor of Radiology at SVIMS, Tirupati, A. Y. Lakshmi, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to radiology education and decades of service to the profession. A general body meeting of the AP IRIA will also be convened during the conference to elect new office bearers for the upcoming term. The conference is being organisd under the leadership of president of AP IRIA V. Suresh (Dolphin Diagnostics) and secretary, AP IRIA Uma Maheswara Reddy, with the coordinated efforts of the Visakhapatnam Radiology Team, including Head of Radiology in KGH Bujji Babu, Uma Maheswara Rao, and Head of Radiology in Apollo Hospitals, Visakhapatnam, Varma.
