With the spooky season ending and the holidays just around the corner, there has never been a better time for a Netflix weekend. The red-branded streamer has been the number one name in online entertainment for years, due in large part to their wide array of content. From original movies and shows to the classics, Netflix has everything. With a chill in the air and the nights getting longer, fall is a great time to dig into Netflix's movie catalog. From family-friendly comedy to giant monster action, there is literally something for everyone on the streamer. When assembling a perfect weekend watch-a-thon, look no further than Netflix's extensive assortment of movies. The Mitchells Vs. The Machines (2021) An unfortunate casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic, The Mitchells vs. The Machines didn't get the wide release it deserved. While escorting their daughter to her first year in college, the titular family is attacked suddenly by sentient technology. With its unique animation style and quirky tone, the 2021 gem is a far cry from the usual animated movies. The brilliance of The Mitchells vs. The Machines is that it never panders to its audience, and has something for viewers of every age. It's a fun and exciting romp for kids, and a heartfelt story for adults. It's been a big hit on Netflix since its release, and for good reason. Godzilla Minus One (2023) The Godzilla franchise has had its ups and downs, but Godzilla Minus One is certainly an exciting next chapter in the 70-year story. Set in the years immediately after WWII, the film follows a Japanese soldier who must confront Godzilla, and his own guilt. Godzilla Minus One makes its title monster scary again, something that's been lacking for years. Underneath its exciting kaiju action is a shockingly dramatic storyline, and it's arguably the best example of human characters in the entire franchise. It snagged the Oscar for Best Visual Effects, and it puts most Hollywood movies to shame in that category. Though giant monster movies might not be everyone's forte, Godzilla Minus One has widespread appeal. The Equalizer (2014) One of the most consistent movie stars of the last four decades, Denzel Washington's best movies are undeniable classics. The Equalizer taps into Washington's action hero appeal, and he plays a mysterious man who uses his violent skills to help regular people out of jams. Though it's a remake of a TV show, Washington makes the role his own. Denzel Washington has starred in two Equalizer sequels.
