21-Phase VRM With ClockGen, Superb IO Finned VRM Heatsink, & Prepped For AMD 3D V-Cache Refresh

We have more details for MSI's enthusiast-grade MEG X870E ACE Max motherboard, which is designed for AMD's 3D V-Cache Refresh CPUs. MSI's Most Powerful ATX-Sized Motherboard, the MEG X870E ACE Max, Is Coming Soon To AM5 Builders The MSI MEG X870E ACE Max is the latest ACE design, which we had already kind of seen with the Z890 series, but updated with a few new tricks. The last time the AM5 platform saw an ACE offering was back with the X670E series, so it's been quite a while since this enthusiast series made a run for the AM5 platform. We last saw the MAX refresh series, including the MEG X870E ACE MAX, at Computex 2025. For one, the motherboard is just as high-end as you can expect an ACE-class product to be, with a solid 18+2+1 (110A) VRM power delivery, dual 8-pin connector configuration, four DDR5 memory slots with some really fast frequency support, and many unique features. One of these unique features is the OC Engine, which adds a clock generator chip on the motherboard, allowing for up to 15% uplift in terms of performance. Furthermore, MSI also adds its Direct OC Jumper, which allows real-time BCLK tuning, useful for overclocking. Another feature for the entire "MAX" series is that the BIOS has been upgraded to a larger 64 MB capacity. This enables better support for future AMD BIOS firmwares. And that is a key thing since the X870E ACE MAX is going to be one of the first motherboards to offer out-of-the-box support for AMD's Ryzen 3D V-Cache CPU refresh, which is expected to include dual CCD "V-Cache" offerings. The MSI MEG X870E ACE MAX motherboard also features a new Illusion Lightning system, which delivers a unique effect on the front I/O panel, which hosts the MSI dragon logo, and also the large PCH/M.2 cover. In terms of IO, you get five M.2 slots, of which two are Gen5 connectors, and all of them are featured under M.2 Shield Frozr heatsinks, which adopt a toolless design. The first slot features an EZ Magnetic M.2 Shield Frozr II heatsink, while the rest is the standard EZ M.2 Clip II design. The top PCIe 5.0 x16 slot also leverages the EZ PCIe Release technology. The motherboard itself also uses a wavy fin design with Direct-Touch cross heat pipe, which enables superior VRM cooling compared to traditional heatsink blocks. MSI is using high-end 9W/mK thermal pads, and there's also a metal backplate with a nice yellow and black pattern, which looks great, and aligns with the black and yellow color scheme on the front. Other highlights include 10 GbE LAN, WIFI7 and USB 40G ports, making this a strong offering in MSI's AM5 lineup. There's also a single 8-pin connector to provide extra juice to the PCIe lanes, and dual PCIe 5.0 x16 slots can also be seen. The full list of IO on the motherboard includes: MSI has started rolling out its X870E and X870 motherboards for retail just recently. We tested the X870E Tomahawk MAX WIFI yesterday, and the rest of the lineup is expected to launch soon. The MSI MEG ACE MAX is expected to launch close to CES 2026, so stay tuned for more information.
