2025 Broomfield Days Poster Contest winners highlight nature

The 2025 Broomfield Days Poster Contest continued the longstanding tradition of honoring creatives in connection with one of the city’s largest events.
The contest, hosted by the Broomfield Council on the Arts and Humanities, selected two winning posters representing Broomfield Days. Mary Savitsky won the adult division with her work “You Talking to Me?” and Sam Ettinger’s photo “The Look” won the youth division.
Broomfield Days, an annual festival the city calls its “biggest event of the year,” took place last weekend.
In past years, only the adult division winner’s poster was available for purchase, but Ettinger’s poster will be available as well, according to Keri Dillingham, BCAH’s executive director. She added that each poster is archival quality, limited edition, and signed and numbered by the artist.
“Since the ‘90s, the Broomfield Days Poster Contest has been a tradition for Broomfield Days and for the community,” Dillingham said. “This tradition is one that speaks to the spirit and vibrancy of this great city.”
Savitsky’s painting depicts a bison’s interaction with a magpie, a first meeting that comes with energy she said she can feel.
“Bison temperament can be unpredictable; they usually appear peaceful as depicted in the painting — however, they may attack without warning. The magpie has no fear,” she said.
Savitsky added that some of her favorite things about Broomfield are the parks, breweries and trails that make it a lovely place for individuals, families and visitors alike.
Ettinger, 13, took his photograph of an owl as part of his ongoing passion for owls, he said.
“To me, owls are truly breathtaking creatures. They embody both strength and wisdom, qualities I wanted to capture in my photograph,” he said. “My inspiration came from the power and presence that owls bring to the world, and my goal was to reflect that essence in my artwork.”
Ettinger said he loves many things about Broomfield but especially its ample opportunities to enjoy nature.
“It’s such a beautiful and peaceful place, especially around nature,” he said. “I love spending time in the natural environment of Broomfield, and wish that it will stay the same for a long time ahead.”
Ettinger and Savitsky’s posters are available through BCAH’s website at ArtsinBroomfield.org.
